Description
The Fisherman’s Son: The Spirit of Ramon Navarro tells the story of Ramon Navarro, a third-generation subsistence fisherman and farmer from Punta Lobos, Chile. After learning to surf on a damaged board left behind by a visiting surfer, Ramon rose to become one of the top ten big wave riders in the world.
Created by editor Chris Malloy, this book chronicles Ramon’s rise in the big wave surfing world and his commitment to environmental activism. Navarro uses his surfing achievements to protect his home break and fight against resort development, pulp mills, and sewage pipes threatening the coastline near Pichilemu. He is admired globally as both a big wave surfer and environmental advocate.
Contributors include surfers Gerry Lopez and Josh Berry, as well as musician Jack Johnson. This edition is autographed by Ramon, and part of the book and film proceeds support his environmental efforts along the Chilean coast.
